Summer offers on PAC mattresses, bedframes and hand sanitisers31st July 2020 Due to the emergence of COVID-19 and the associated pandemic, recent months have seen the NHS and other UK healthcare providers facing some of their toughest ever challenges in terms of bed capacity and infection prevention. Since the UK went into lockdown in March 2020 multiple Nightingale Hospitals have been created and equipped with thousands of additional beds and specialist pressure area care (PAC) mattresses. In addition, infection prevention has never been so important as every one of us looks to break the chain of infection and reduce our risk of contracting or transmitting COVID-19. With the UK Government ‘mothballing’ the newly created Nightingale hospitals in readiness for a potentially more severe ‘second-wave’ of COVID-19 patients this Winter, many UK healthcare providers are now preparing to increase bed capacity in anticipation of surge capacity pressures above and beyond those typically seen during a standard winter season where influenza and norovirus alone can stretch the bed capacity of some services to breaking point.
